Comedian - Ed Kear - Comedy: From Bristol to Blockbusters and Back to the Stage
Ed Kear is not your typical stand-up comedian. While he is now a regular on the UK comedy circuit, hailed as a fresh and exciting new voice, his career has taken him from low-budget indie films to the sets of some of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters. This Bristol-born actor, writer-director, and comedian is a true multi-hyphenate talent, bringing a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to his live performances.
A Journey Through Film and Television
After graduating, Ed threw himself into the film industry, learning the craft from the ground up by working behind the camera. This practical education gave him the skills to begin writing and directing his own projects, including comedy sketches, short films, and music videos. His web series
Blowing the Budget earned recognition from both Raindance and Variety, marking him as a talent to watch.
His big break as an actor came in 2015 with a role in BBC3's Crims. Since then, he has become a regular face on British television, with roles in hit shows like the BBC/CBS sitcom
Ghosts, Here We Go (BBC1), Slow Horses (Apple TV), and even the Star Wars universe with The Acolyte on Disney+.
However, it's his film credits that are truly staggering. Ed has appeared in a string of major Hollywood movies, including Cruella (2021), Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), The Batman (2022), and the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). This experience of working on massive productions alongside A-list stars gives his stand-up a foundation of industry insight that few can match.
A Triumphant West End Debut and Stand-Up Success
In 2022, Ed made his West End debut, performing alongside Oscar-winner Mark Rylance in the critically acclaimed Jez Butterworth play Jerusalem. This achievement solidified his status as a serious and respected actor. Building on this incredible on-screen and on-stage success, Ed ventured into stand-up comedy in 2019.
He quickly made a name for himself, winning the Top Secret Comedy Gong Show and becoming a regular performer at the UK's leading venues. His TV stand-up debut came in 2024 on ITV's
The Stand Up Sketch Show. Whether he is on a blockbuster film set or a comedy club stage,
comedian Ed Kear brings a unique and hilarious perspective to his comedy.
Behind the Camera: Rude Guests
Ed's creative drive doesn't stop at acting and stand-up. He is also one half of the directing duo Rude Guests, with his long-time collaborator Cringo Williamson. Together, they have written and directed sitcom pilots, adverts, and award-winning short films. Their short,
Just Be Awesome, won Best Comedy at the BAFTA-qualifying Bolton Film Festival in 2024. They are currently in post-production for their debut feature film,
Go Away, which stars Michael Socha and Hugh Bonneville and is set for a worldwide release in 2026. This breadth of experience, from acting in Marvel movies to directing his own feature film, makes Ed Kear one of the most dynamic and exciting talents to have ever graced the Comedy in Your Eye stage.
