A queer Irish stand-up comic, actor, and writer, Leigh Douglas is a multi-talented force making serious waves in the London comedy scene. With a razor-sharp wit and a penchant for making jokes about lesbians, Disney princesses, and the English, she has a remarkable ability to make audiences roar with laughter while simultaneously educating them on a bit of Irish history.   

From Dublin's Gaiety School to London's Stages

Leigh's background is rooted in performance, having trained as a "very serious actor" at the prestigious Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin. This formal training is evident in her commanding stage presence and her ability to craft compelling narratives. After growing up in Bray, Ireland, and spending time in Seattle, she is now based in London, bringing her unique Irish-American perspective to the UK circuit.   

Her creative talents extend far beyond the stand-up stage. She holds a Diploma in Writing and Producing Comedy from the National Film and Television School (NFTS), a qualification that has powered her success as a screenwriter and creator. This blend of acting prowess and writing skill makes her a uniquely well-rounded and formidable creative artist.

Leigh Douglas's CV is a testament to her incredible work ethic and multifaceted talent. Her work as a writer has earned her significant industry recognition. Her sitcom pilot script, 'Queer Jig', won the Female Writer's Initiative with UKTV and Female Pilot Club and was longlisted for the Funny Women Writing Award.   

Her first comedy short, 'You're Alright Hun', which she wrote and starred in, has become a festival darling. After premiering at the Kerry International Film Festival, it screened at festivals in New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. It went on to win Best Comedy at the London Rocks Film Festival and Best Student Short at the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival. Both 'Queer Jig' and 'You're Alright Hun' are now being developed for television.   

On top of her screen work, her critically acclaimed one-woman show, 'Sacrament', has been staged at the Vault Festival and The King's Head Theatre and is now being developed into a novel. She is also a heat winner of the LGBTQ+ New Comedian of the Year 2024 and a winner at the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2023 for Best Scripted Comedy.
