Comedian - Radu Isac - Comedy: Romania's Intelligently Subversive Comedy King

Radu Isac is a veteran comedian with a truly international story. A professional stand-up in his native Romania since 2006, he was known as the "comedians' comedian" before moving to London in 2015 to take on the English-speaking circuit. He has since become a celebrated act in the UK, known for a style that is playful, idiosyncratic, and intelligently subversive.   

From Bucharest to the BBC

Radu was part of the very first generation of stand-up comedians in Romania, honing his craft for nearly a decade before making the leap to the UK. This deep experience is evident in his masterful stage presence and joke-writing skill. Shortly after arriving in London, he made it to the final of the prestigious English Comedian of the Year competition, a clear sign that his unique comedic voice was ready for a new audience. He has also co-founded the East European Comedy Festival, championing immigrant comedy in London.

His humour is a unique blend of observational, dark, surreal, and deadpan satire. He has been called the "king of the misanthropes," delivering a bleak worldview one perfectly crafted gag at a time. His material has been described as "sugar-coated depravity" that forces laughs from people who should know better—"venomous but twinkly, like a snake dipped in glitter". He is not afraid to tackle the frustrations of being an immigrant in the UK, turning his observations into sharp, hilarious commentary.

Radu's talent has been consistently recognised with awards and nominations in both Romania and the UK. He won the Harrogate Comedian of the Year in 2017 and was a finalist in the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year competition.   

His work has been featured extensively on the BBC and Comedy Central, with appearances on 'Stand Up Express', 'Fresh From the Fringe', and 'The Arts Hour'. He has performed multiple solo shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and has opened for global comedy giants like Louie C.K. and Jim Gaffigan, a testament to the high esteem in which he is held by the international comedy community.
