Comedian - Sarah Roberts - Comedy: The Critically Acclaimed Silkworm Spinning Jokes into Gold

Sarah Roberts is a phenomenal new talent who has taken the London comedy scene by storm with her sharp writing and an original, funny voice that is destined for stardom. A writer and comedian, she describes herself, with a perfect touch of wit, as the "world's youngest, smallest, most normal comedian". But her achievements are anything but normal. Her 2024 debut hour at the Edinburgh Fringe, 'Silkworm', was a critical smash hit, earning features as a stand-out show in The Guardian, Rolling Stone, and PinkNews, and marking her as one of the most exciting newcomers of the year.

Her path to comedy was born from a desire to break a creative stalemate. A Creative Writing graduate, Sarah found herself terrified of being bad at things and stuck in a state of inaction. Her solution was brilliantly counter-intuitive: she decided to do something she would almost certainly be bad at, where being laughed at was the entire point. She signed up for her first stand-up gig, randomly won a tiny trophy, quit her job the next day, and has not looked back since. This impulsive instinct has served her well, providing a wealth of anecdotal gold, from a painfully awkward teenage attempt to win a boy's heart by baking him a cake to her unofficial "first gigs" giving speeches on the Bar Mitzvah circuit, where she honed her skills in storytelling and punchlines.

The brilliantly witty comedian Sarah Roberts delivers an "arch and charismatic" brand of comedy that is packed with punchlines and utterly compelling. Her style is built on a foundation of excellent writing, a skill she refined while earning a post-graduate diploma in Writing and Producing Comedy at the prestigious National Film and Television School. Her work is often self-deprecating and draws from her own life with a sharp, observational eye. Critics have playfully described her persona as "utterly self-absorbed" and "unreliable and self-centered," labels that point to a cleverly constructed and hilariously relatable character who navigates the anxieties and absurdities of modern life.

Sarah's list of achievements is staggering for a relative newcomer. She was a recent BBC New Comedy Awards Finalist, a runner-up in the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year competition, a British New Comedian of the Year nominee, and a finalist in the Komedia New Act competition. She is also a winner of the 99 Club Bursary, further cementing her status as a comic hotly tipped by the industry. Her debut show 'Silkworm' was not only a critical success but was also featured on multiple "best of the Fringe" lists. Beyond the stage, her short film 'OnlyFran', which she wrote, directed, and produced, was featured by Director's Notes as one of the ten essential shorts from her NFTS graduating class and was shortlisted for a Funny Women Shorts Award.
