Comedian - Vidura - Comedy: The Deadpan Filmmaker with a Global Perspective

He originally left Sri Lanka to attend medical school in Malaysia, a path he pursued for practical reasons. He then taught himself software engineering and moved to Berlin for a job in tech—a job he still holds while his comedy career explodes. It was in Berlin's small English-speaking open mic scene that he first tried stand-up and discovered a passion he wanted to pursue seriously. This background as a doctor, a software engineer, and a global citizen gives him a unique and intelligent lens through which to view the world, particularly the relationship between South Asia and former imperial powers.   

The brilliantly deadpan comedian Vidura BR crafts a unique and thought-provoking brand of comedy that resonates with audiences worldwide. His material is often a loose memoir, an expression of what is on his mind at any given time, from the absurdities of therapy to why Germans love recycling. He is also a talented filmmaker, and this sensibility infuses his stand-up. His debut hour, 'Monsoon Season', was a fully self-directed, produced, written, and performed special that earned significant online attention and was syndicated on Amazon Prime Video. He has followed this up with two more specials, 'French Kiss Tunnel' and 'Woodapple Jam', showcasing a prolific and singular creative vision.   

Vidura's talent has not gone unnoticed. He has appeared on ITV2's 'The Stand Up Sketch Show' and has been featured in Vogue India. As a stand-up, he has been a finalist in the Leicester Square New Act of the Year competition, the 2Northdown New Act Competition, and was named Berlin's Best New Comedian. He was also a semi-finalist in the prestigious BBC New Comedy Awards. As a director, his narrative short film won Best First Time Director at the Berlin Indie Film Festival, and his feature-length documentary 'Open Mic Days' is streaming on Amazon Prime Video with an impressive 8.8 rating on IMDb. His live shows are a hot ticket, with his recent tours selling out venues across London, Lisbon, and Berlin.
