Eric Rushton wins the Sean Lock Comedy Award sponsored by Channel 4

Eric Rushton has been crowned the winner of the Sean Lock Comedy Award hosted by Channel 4

Channel 4 recently announced The Sean Lock Comedy Award, a prestigious platform that aims to highlight exceptional new writers and performers who capture the alternative comedic spirit of both Sean Lock and Channel 4 and Eric Rushton has been named the winner!

As the victor, he will be granted a truly unique opportunity to jumpstart his career in TV comedy. He'll receive a generous £5,000 to support his live performances, in addition to a script commission from Channel 4's esteemed comedy team. But that's not all! He'll also have the incredible chance to shadow talented writers on Channel 4's comedy entertainment shows, as well as secure a £1,000 commission to write a script for Channel 4's digital strand. As part of this comprehensive package, he will also receive invaluable support and mentoring sessions from Channel 4's commissioning teams.

Sean Lock made a significant impact in stand-up, entertainment, and scripted comedy, leaving a lasting impression on all who experienced his work. From the widely acclaimed sitcom '15 Storeys High' to his unforgettable appearances on '8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown' and his consistently sold-out stand-up tours, Sean always offered a fresh and distinctive perspective on life. His peers admired him greatly, recognizing his unique individuality within the comedy world. Sean truly embodied the Channel 4 spirit—an alternative voice with profound and relatable insights, delivered in his own inimitable style.

Channel 4 collaborated with numerous live comedy venues and promoters across the UK. Together, they nominated and shortlisted an exceptional group of finalists which included Comedy in Your Eye pupils; Alex Bertulis-Fernandes, Mamoun Elagab, Kyrah Gray, Kuan-wen Huang, Tadiwa Mahlunge and Lily Webb
