Filming has begun in Sussex on Zak The Ripper, a new British comedy starring comedian and actor Tiff Stevenson. Shooting in Brighton, Newhaven and other locations across the county, the film follows a newly divorced man whose dating life takes a sinister turn. It is scheduled to reach screens in summer 2027.

Key takeaways

  • Zak The Ripper is filming in Brighton, Newhaven and other Sussex locations.

  • Tiff Stevenson plays Zoe, with Sy Thomas starring as Zak Harris.

  • Richard Herring and Jack Skipper are also among the cast.

  • The comedy is written and directed by Warren Dudley and planned for release in summer 2027.

A dating mishap turns into a murder mystery

The story centres on Zak Harris, an awkward man recently out of a marriage. After a date ends with someone dead, he finds himself under suspicion for a series of murders. With more bodies turning up, Zak must try to prove his innocence as the case against him appears to grow.

The premise mixes relationship comedy with a murder mystery, setting up a distinctly dark turn for its hapless central character. For comedy fans who enjoy seeing performers take on new material and roles, the film offers another way to catch familiar comic talent beyond the live stage. At Comedy in Your Eye in Camden, discovering professional comedians in an intimate setting is part of the fun; on screen, this cast gets to play out a very different kind of comic scenario.

Stevenson leads an experienced comedy cast

Stevenson plays Zoe, while Sy Thomas takes the role of Zak. The cast also includes comedian Richard Herring and comic Jack Skipper. Stevenson is known for stand-up as well as screen appearances in People Just Do Nothing, The Office, GameFace and Slotherhouse. She has also appeared on Mock the Week and House of Games.

Stevenson has described the production as an original British comedy and praised the cast and crew. Producer Matt Cotton said she had thrown herself into the role of Zoe, adding that her scenes with Thomas brought the characters’ scheming friendship to life.

Sussex locations and a 2027 release

Warren Dudley, whose screenwriting credits include The Bromley Boys, wrote and is directing the film. He is producing it with Matt Cotton, a long-time collaborator who is also the director of photography. Production is scheduled to run for four weeks across Sussex during September, with filming taking place in Brighton and Newhaven.

The film is currently planned for release in summer 2027. Until then, its mix of awkward dating, mounting suspicion and a comedy-heavy cast gives audiences a first glimpse of a British independent production taking shape on the Sussex coast.
