TLC's Unacceptable Comedy Show Lands Early Second Series Order

TLC has demonstrated strong early confidence in its latest comedy offering, Unacceptable, by commissioning a second series well before the premiere of its debut run. Hosted by acclaimed comedian Ed Gamble, the fast-paced panel show tasks famous faces with defending some of the most outlandish and controversial opinions imaginable in front of a live studio audience.

Key show details

  • Host: Ed Gamble

  • Team Captains: Richard Ayoade and Joanne McNally

  • Production: Produced by Ranga Bee with Executive Producer Romesh Ranganathan

  • Launch date: 5 July at 9pm on TLC

  • Format: 6x60 minutes

The premise of Unacceptable

At the heart of the show is a unique scoring system designed to measure the persuasiveness of the panellists. Each episode, team captains Richard Ayoade and Joanne McNally are joined by guest comics who pitch wild, unwise, or downright daft opinions. The studio audience votes on these takes before and after the arguments are presented. Using a live 'swingometer', Ed Gamble tracks how much the audience's consensus shifts based on the razor-sharp wit and punchlines of the participants.

One of the most anticipated segments is 'the stitch up round', where teams are presented with bizarre arguments they must support despite their personal stance. For instance, viewers will see Joanne McNally attempting to construct a case for the idea that women are not funny, while Richard Ayoade is forced to argue that action films represent the pinnacle of cinema.

A star-studded line-up

The series features an impressive roster of British comedy talent. Beyond the captains and host, the guest list includes notable names such as Katherine Ryan, Guz Khan, Maisie Adam, Joel Dommett, Chris McCausland, and Lucy Beaumont. These guests are challenged to justify provocative statements ranging from AI taking over the world to complex arguments about the Royal Family and private education funding. With the second series already secured, it is clear that TLC and the production team at Ranga Bee are betting big on the chaotic, debate-driven format becoming a staple of Sunday night television.
