Comedy in Your Eye Pupil Julia Masli wins three Edinburgh Fringe Awards

Updated: Nov 30, 2023

Comedy in Your Eye favourite, Julia Masli, wins three comedy awards despite missing out on the SKY Best Show of the Fringe Award.

Julia Masli has won three awards at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023 for her late night, interactive clowning show entitled "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha", which proved to be incredibly popular with Fringe audiences and judges alike.

She was featured in our Top 15 shows to see at the Fringe 2023 and was even nominated for SKY's Best Show of the Fringe 2023.

The Estonian comedian bagged 'Best Show' at the Comedians' Choice Awards, which Comedy in Your Eye regular, Rob Copland, won last year, and is decided via a poll of the comedy performers at the Festival.

After being surprised on stage with the award, Masli said: "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha".

Julia was then announced as joint winner of "Best Show" at the inaugural (ISH) Edinburgh Comedy Awards, alongside Paul Foot and his show "Dissolve". The winners were announced by Patrick Monahan at a ceremony at The Three Sisters.

They say good things come in threes and they certainly did for Julia as she was named the "Act Most Likely to Make a Million Quid" as part of the Malcolm Hardee Awards, due to her ability to problem-solve during her Edinburgh Show.

This included extending her run beyond its initial schedule, to a 1.30am spot at Monkey Barrel, facilitating a marriage proposal between two members of her crowd, helping an audience member reveal their sexuality to their mates and finding new accommodation for someone.

Her shows have made such a splash that she was featured in the New York Times and one of the show's production team has even had “Problem?” tattooed on their ankle in reference to the show!

After being surprised on stage with another trophy at the end of her show, yet again, Masli said “Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha." This time she did add "I promise to spend money to solve problems.”

The Malcolm Hardee trophies are handed out in the memory of the comic, agent, manager, club-owner and prankster and they celebrate anarchic spirit of comedy at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
