Although Comedy in Your Eye started in October 2021, it's origins lie slightly further back to the previous summer after a sold out Camden Fringe comedy showcase, called Dec's Angels 2: Full Throttle Comedy, came to the Camden Eye and it was clear that this was the perfect venue for Live Stand Up Comedy!
Since then we have hosted weekly comedy shows in the upstairs room of this historic pub and thought this would the perfect place to tell you a little more about or beloved home.
The Camden Eye pub has been around for over 150 years and still stands to this day as an iconic part of the neighborhood. Originally opened in 1867, the pub was founded by Irish immigrant brothers James and Peter O’Toole, who hoped to provide a safe haven for weary travelers passing through Camden Town. The pub quickly developed a reputation as one of the warmest and most welcoming places around, with locals gathering to enjoy good food and drink.
Over time, the building itself has undergone several changes but many of its original features still remain today - including its traditional wooden bar and old-fashioned fireplace.
Scrolling through the internet archives, it is also presumed that the pub, which was also formerly known as the Old Mother Red Cap, the Red Cap and Halfway House, used to be a prison! Later, it was also allegedly the pub that criminals went to for their final drink before being hanged! I guess it isn't just new comedians who have died at the Camden Eye!
Today, the Camden Eye is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. As well as comedy, it is the home to live music events as well as a Sunday Quiz. All excellently supported by a wide selection of alcoholic drinks and traditional pub eats.
